  In accordance with the National Curriculum Framework, the type of questions asked in ASSET focus more on observations made about the natural world, which includes animals, plants, daily materials, etc. Our questions also test whether students are able to make connections between these observations and draw inferences from the same. A rudimentary level of experiment design is also tested in our papers. Students at this level have a nascent understanding of the world of Science, and it may be unfair to expect them to answer questions only about the theoretical world of Science. Since ASSET is a skill-based test, all our questions also test skills in Science.

I scored 99.9 in Maths, 99.6 in english and 99.42 in Science, I really like the pattern of your assetttest, it is completely different than other test,it really test the skills and concept. I would like to know how the top 10 winners decided, is it as per the total marks put together and than percentile or individual subject average, top 10 assett toppers already announced or yet to be announced. top 10 toppers includes both summer and winter exams?

  The subject participation depends on the school. You need to check with your school. The optional subjects we offer in ASSET are: Hindi (Class 4 to 8 ) and Social Studies (Class 5 to 10).

I read this statement on the for parent’s page and was quite excited to read more

If you are a parent who are aware of the fact that it’s learning that matters for your child and not only the marks they score in the exam, then you and EI have much in common.”

But coming to this page made me quite sad. What is this inherent need to rank and publish names. Despite a great underlying methodology, why do you need to create the rat race motivation to drive towards learning.

Is it to justify the commercial well being of the initiative. Else people may not take the test ?

  Dear Sir,
  
  We largely agree with your point, and the main purpose of our assessment is to give a student feedback on his or her strengths and weakness in different subject. Further the Student MyBook given to every student provides detailed information as well as an individualised collection of questions based on the areas the child needs to work on. These in-depth analysis reports pave the way for action plan for improvement. Clearly our focus in on diagnosis and feedback and not competition.
  
  Having said that, we do not believe that it is wrong to recognise the toppers in some way as long as:
  – detailed ranking is not done, implying that rank 3 is far superior to say rank 7.
  – the prize or recognition is not material or expensive
  
  We do follow both these guidelines. Apart from recognition to the children named, we also find that this encourages and inspires other children to try harder the next time. You have referred to commercial reasons but we would like to assure you that there is no such motivation or benefit from publishing a list of toppers.

  Every year we declare the list of eligible students for the Duke TIP program in the month of October. Also, as of now, the Duke TIP Program in India is only for the students who would be studying IN 7th standard at the time of the above level test.Since you would have already crossed 7th grade right now, you would not be eligible for the Duke Program in India.

  Thanks for raising this point. Your concerns are valid.
  
  However, your daughter should take the grade 5 ASSET paper. This is because ASSET papers are designed considering the above point. A paper for a given grade is based on the previous year’s syllabus. So the grade 5 paper is based on the grade 4 curriculum. This is to make sure that the students have been through the entire curriculum till the previous year.
  
  I hope this clarifies your doubts. Do write to us in case it isn’t clear.

  The ASSET certificate is not officially recognised by any agency or body in the US, UK or India. However, ASSET is treated by many schools especially the leading ones as the ‘gold standard’ for student learning assessment in India. I will share 3 examples of this:
  
  – Duke University, USA, uses ASSET as the exclusive tool is identify students to attend its Talent Identification Program (Duke TiP)
  – EI and ASSET have been chosen for large assessment studies by the best organisations in the world including Google, the World Bank, Wipro, India Today, Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and various state governments for measure student learning accurately.
  – Many Indian schools and parents in the Gulf use ASSET because it gives them a very useful picture of how their children are doing compared to children in the leading schools of India
  
  ASSET is a diagnostic tool. That means that the tool helps the student, parent and school to understand where the student stands and how the student can improve. It is not primarily a certification tool though it is a powerful benchmarking tool.

  The eligibility criteria for qualifying to Duke is:
  
  1. You should have scored 95 percentile or above in the ASSET test in either English, Maths or Science
  
  2. You should be currently enrolled in the 7th standard.
  
  If you satisfy both these criterion then you are qualified to participate in Duke 2013-14.

My daughter appeared for 2012 Winter Asset. She received a certificate with performance as DISTINGUISHED PERFORMANCE. I would like to know is there any City wise catagozarition about toppers.

My son received the result and certificate from the school ( Our Own Indian School, Dubai)he attended grade 4 asset test and got 99.7 percentage in scince (out standing certificate) and over all outstanding certificated also received. He eligible for a trophy ?

I read this statement on the for parent’s page and was quite excited to read more

But coming to this page made me quite sad. What is this inherent need to rank and publish names. Despite a great underlying methodology, why do you need to create the rat race motivation to drive towards learning.

Is it to justify the commercial well being of the initiative. Else people may not take the test ?

  We largely agree with your point, and the main purpose of our assessment is to give a student feedback on his or her strengths and weakness in different subject. Further the Student MyBook given to every student provides detailed information as well as an individualised collection of questions based on the areas the child needs to work on. These in-depth analysis reports pave the way for action plan for improvement. Clearly our focus in on diagnosis and feedback and not competition.
  
  Having said that, we do not believe that it is wrong to recognise the toppers in some way as long as:
  – detailed ranking is not done, implying that rank 3 is far superior to say rank 7.
  – the prize or recognition is not material or expensive
  
  We do follow both these guidelines. Apart from recognition to the children named, we also find that this encourages and inspires other children to try harder the next time. You have referred to commercial reasons but we would like to assure you that there is no such motivation or benefit from publishing a list of toppers.

  Every year we declare the list of eligible students for the Duke TIP program in the month of October. Also, as of now, the Duke TIP Program in India is only for the students who would be studying IN 7th standard at the time of the above level test.Since you would have already crossed 7th grade right now, you would not be eligible for the Duke Program in India.

  Thanks for raising this point. Your concerns are valid.
  
  However, your daughter should take the grade 5 ASSET paper. This is because ASSET papers are designed considering the above point. A paper for a given grade is based on the previous year’s syllabus. So the grade 5 paper is based on the grade 4 curriculum. This is to make sure that the students have been through the entire curriculum till the previous year.

  The ASSET certificate is not officially recognised by any agency or body in the US, UK or India. However, ASSET is treated by many schools especially the leading ones as the ‘gold standard’ for student learning assessment in India. I will share 3 examples of this:
  
  – Duke University, USA, uses ASSET as the exclusive tool is identify students to attend its Talent Identification Program (Duke TiP)
  – EI and ASSET have been chosen for large assessment studies by the best organisations in the world including Google, the World Bank, Wipro, India Today, Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and various state governments for measure student learning accurately.
  – Many Indian schools and parents in the Gulf use ASSET because it gives them a very useful picture of how their children are doing compared to children in the leading schools of India
  
  ASSET is a diagnostic tool. That means that the tool helps the student, parent and school to understand where the student stands and how the student can improve. It is not primarily a certification tool though it is a powerful benchmarking tool.

  The eligibility criteria for qualifying to Duke is:
  
  1. You should have scored 95 percentile or above in the ASSET test in either English, Maths or Science
  
  2. You should be currently enrolled in the 7th standard.
  
  If you satisfy both these criterion then you are qualified to participate in Duke 2013-14.
